An optimistic view of web design tomorrow yields realistic solutions today for topics such as layout, typography, accessibility, identity, community and more.

Phillip Kerman will present an overview of Adobe’s annual user conference MAX that just concluded in Chicago. This is where Adobe celebrates the current offerings and discloses new technology directions. In addition Phillip will give an introduction to ActionScript 3 (the latest incarnation of the Flash programming language).
Here’s a quick list of what’s new, what’s coming, and what may be coming:
Adobe Image Foundation Toolkit (to build your own custom filters);
“Astro” (Flash Player 10);
“Thermo” (which is like a much improved design view for Flex Builder giving designers a way to convert Photoshop documents into MXML);
“Mars” (which is an XML rendition of PDF files);
Adobe’s is also making plans to provide more hosted services (also known as “software as a service”) including “Share” (more than just a “hard drive in the sky”), “Voice” (a VoiP service), Photoshop Express, and Premiere Express, and “CoCoMo” (a revamped version of Connect).
In the maybe/maybe not really coming category, Adobe also sneaked: Visual and scriptable bones and inverse kinematics in Flash authoring; an ActionScript wrapper for C++ code libraries; and “smart” image scaling.
About the Speaker:
Phillip Kerman is a teacher, writer, and programmer focusing on the Adobe Flash platform. He’s programmed several games on MSN and Messenger Live including Sudoku Too and Jigsaw Too. He also programmed the real-time cattle auction site stampedecattle.com. Recently his focus is on cashing-in before Bubble 2.0.
